Background

I was tasked with designing and modelling a custom and original wireless earbud that would be advertised through my created website. The model had to include the outer casing, the inner components, and a case, and the website needed to have a scrolling animation, an interactive 3D model, an xray comparison slider, and other promotional materials

The Project

The goal of the project was to work with all the disciplines we’d learned in our program to create a high-end, unique, and interactive experience to advertise what we’d made. The project showed how all of the elements of our program connected and worked together in the industry, as well as what’s required when it comes to advertising

The Issues

  • Basic case modelling methods didn’t work

The Fixes

  • Learning how to use the collision object in Cinema4D

Process

I began by making sketches of the earbuds as I found the right design, which I then turned into blueprints for modelling. I modelled the shell and components of the earbuds using the blueprints as guidelines, as well as a case in Cinema4D. I arranged and animated the earbuds and case to create promotional images and a video that I edited with After Effects to make the website’s scroll animation

I coded the page with a large focus on smooth interactivity using GreenSock and JavaScript functionality, using smooth scrolling and easing animations to fade content in as it is scrolled to. I added in the scroll animation, model viewer, xray slider, and other promotional materials, as well as some other text about the earbuds to complete the website

Impact & Final Product

The Aquabuds were a very successful and innovative creation that helped to promote Aqua Audio and their cause to clean up Earth’s oceans. The product was quite successful with many satisfied customers, most of which learned about the Aquabuds through my advertising

Looking Back

This project helped me to better see the connection between motion design and code, giving me a new appreciation for coding and seeing how the work I do can be so involved and connected with the code. This project gave me a good opportunity to learn how to better work under pressure, dealing with a number of deadlines and deliverables at a time and learning how to manage my time with each of them
